University Lecturer in Criminology

Gaskeuniversiteete/Mittuniversitetet is located in the heart of the South Sámi area in Saepmie. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is a cross-regional institution with operations at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The activities include research and education in subjects such as English, Gender Studies, History, Criminology, Literary Studies, Social Science, Sociology, Political Science, Swedish as a Second Language, and the Swedish Language. Research is conducted within each subject as well as within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), Forum for Gender Studies (FGV), and DEMICOM.

The Criminology subject is part of a joint organizational unit with the Sociology subject.

The Subject Collegium for Criminology and Sociology is cross-regional and operates in both Sundsvall and Östersund. At Campus Östersund, there are programs in Risk and Crisis Management, Human Resource Management, and independent courses in Criminology, while at Campus Sundsvall, there is a Social Science program and a Bachelor's program in Criminology. Additionally, there is a distance education offering consisting of both progression and breadth courses. The unit's research is organized around the areas of Violence and Crime Prevention, Risk and Crisis, Work and Organization, and Society, Power, and Critique. Parts of the research are linked to the interdisciplinary research environments FGF and RCR.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching, supervision, and examination, primarily at the basic level within the Criminology subject, but teaching within the Sociology subject may also be relevant. The responsibilities also include independent research, where the employee has research, professional development, and administrative time corresponding to 20% of the staffing time. Since campus-based teaching may be relevant at both locations, the applicant can choose their placement. The holder of the position is expected to contribute to the development of the collegium's work and to the pedagogical and research-related environment at Mittuniversitetet's locations. The position includes administration according to applicable working time agreements and local guidelines.

Eligible for the position of university lecturer in criminology is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree in criminology or a related field.

Other Requirements

The applicant must be able to perform administrative and pedagogical tasks that require an understanding of, and the ability to use, both Swedish and English. Teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish, making good knowledge of Swedish highly significant.

Personal qualities such as social competence and good collaboration skills are also emphasized. Furthermore, you need to be able to work independently, be flexible, and have a good ability to plan your work.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for the appointment of a lecturer shall be based on the degree of such competence required for eligibility for the position. Equal attention is given to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to scientific skills.

Experience in teaching and research within the unit's research and educational areas is meritorious. Particularly meritorious is experience in teaching and research in the field of violence and crime prevention, as well as various forms of methodological teaching, including quantitative methods. Since the position involves student contact, good collaboration and communication skills are important.

Processing

Employment and Start Date

The position is a full-time temporary appointment, starting by agreement, but no later than 2026-06-31.
